What to Do on Rhodes
If you’re wondering what to do on Rhodes then our suggested highlights include Rhodes Old Town, Lindos, Kameiros, and a visit to Symi.
Rhodes Old Town
If you only have a short time to visit Rhodes, or would like to get a really complete picture of the island, here are the essentials:
What to Do on Rhodes
Spend time on the less-crowded beaches of the south and west coasts where you will find open spaces and peace and quiet.
Follow our walk through Rhodes Old Town. Take your time and make several visits in order to absorb fully the wonderful atmosphere.
Some Cool Rhodes Souvenirs
Find out if there is a festival or cultural event being held during your stay and if there is, join in. Visitors are always made welcome. Read our Easter on Rhodes page to find out what happened to Mike when he accepted an invitation to spend Easter Sunday with a Greek family.
Lindos
Visit ancient Kameíros and Líndos. Both transcend their picture-postcard images. Try to visit as early in the day as possible, when they are less crowded.
Spend time in Rhodes New Town and enjoy the atmosphere of modern, cosmopolitan Greece in cafés and restaurants, and in the fashionable shops.
Head for the mountains and spend time in villages such as Monolithos or Siana.
Symi
Try to fit in an overnight stay on the island of Symi. A day trip is rewarding, but Symi’s old town of Chorio, all steep stone staircases and twisting alleys, is best enjoyed in the cool of the evening.
Explore some of Rhodes’ out of the way villages such as Gennadi or Lachania. You’ll catch the flavour of a quieter, more down-to earth Rhodes.
Try Some Retsina on Rhodes
Eat and drink Greek. Try a selection of mezédhes (tapas-like starters) – a good selection can make a superb meal in itself and can be quite filling. If you enjoy wine, then try the excellent Rhodian vintages. The island produces some very good wine.
